Description: My group for this project was Paige Duncan, Katie Raffaini, Julia Corbani and I . We were asked to create/find a solution for any major world problem that we chose. There were many problems to choose from. We had originally chosen deforestation and the meat industry, but the solution we had created covered a few more problems as well as the ones we had chosen.
Our solution covered a few of the problems that our class had brainstormed, making it more difficult to know what to do and where to start it all. We started by giving each person of the group a subject to research. For instance, I did research on hydroponics and extinction, Julia researched pollution, Katie researched information about the meat industry, and Paige researched facts about deforestation. We put all of our collected information together and came up with a solution that covered all of the problems we were dealing with.
Our Final Product: The solution we built was relatively simple and could really help our world if people cared more about the earth than their own personal profit. It consists of fish living under a floating garden. This covers all of the issues my group chose to work on. The fish can serve as a replacement for meat, reducing issues with the meat industry. The fish poop then soaks into the water and fertilizes the little garden on top, growing vegetables to eat (the plants will produce oxygen, helping to clean pollution out of the air). Eating the fish will reduce the need to eat cows and other animals, giving those animals a less likely chance of extinction. With less meat being sold, less areas will need to be cleared of trees for meat industry settlements. All of the things are major issues of the world. Our solution may not completely fix them all, but it does slow them down and make things better.
